The
Simpsons clan made a hilarious leap to the big screen in this
2007 box office hit.
The
Simpsons Movie is loaded with the kind of witty stuff that
made it a long-running TV favourite. Made for around $75 million,
the 87-minute flick did boffo business, pulling in $525 million
at the global box office. Bet there will be a sequel.
The
simple plot has Homer saving a cute pig from being slaughtered.
He takes the little critter home, nicknames him "Spider
Pig" and bonds so well with him he contemplates a first
kiss...Yeah, it's a little edgy.
Matters
of the heart aside, Homer has to build a silo in the backyard
for Spider Pig's waste. But instead of being environmentally
aware, Home dumps the thing into Lake Springfield, polluting
it.
Before
Homer can fart, the Feds swoop in and put a huge dome over
Springfield, cutting its filthy pollution - and the entire
community - off from the world. Enraged, the trapped trownsfolk
discover Homer is to blame and organize a lynching party.
Homer,
Marge and the clan barely escape the mob, squirming through
an underground tunnel to freedom - and a new life in Alaska.
But with Springfield set for destruction on the order of inept
President Arnold Schwarzenegger, Marge decides she's got to
clean up Homer's mess.
I
love the little things in this movie, like Bart's nude skateboard
ride. Or the scene where danger threatens andthe congregation
of the church runs into the neighbouring bar while the bar
patrons flee into the church.
Briskly
paced, The Simpsons Movie is loaded with laughs and is brilliantly
animated. It's definitely One of 2007's best comedy movies.
