OK,
just how does the Hard Rock Cafe franchise acquire all that
fabulous rock 'n roll memorabilia?
Answer:
When it can't buy the stuff it begs, pleads and flatters rock
egos.
This
great documentary follows Hard Rock's director of acquisitions,
Don Bernstine, as he flies around the world buying stuff at
auctions and meeting the likes of Jimmy Page, Brian Wilson,
Richie Sambora, Kiss, Peter Frampton, Doug Fleger, "Dimebag"
Darrell Abbott and guitar legend Tony Iommi . . . to name
but a few.
Guitars,
drums, stage clothes, cars, Gold Records - you name it and
Bernstine has acquired it for the Hard Rock's 138 restaurants.
Since the first was launched in swinging London in 1971, Hard
Rock has gone global and currently rotates more than 70,000
pieces of rock history through its establishments from Shanghai
to LA.
Bernstine's
is a job many musc fans dream of doing. Who can blame them
when an average day might yield former Black Sabbath guitarist
Tony Iommi personally handing over the red Gibson guitar on
which he wrote "Paranoid"?
Don
is on first-name terms with rock royalty and the people around
them and he learns many interesting secrets - like the former
Beatles chauffeur who expertly faked the Fab Four's now very
collectible (and expensive) autographs when they were too
busy to meet fans.
A
rockin' documentary.
